The NHL is trying to crackdown on unnecessary blows to the head.
The NHL's Senior Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations, Colin Campbell, had the following memo, obtained by TSN, posted in every NHL dressing room on Friday.
"Recently, we have had two (2) supplemental discipline incidents involving direct elbow blows to the head. This is a play that we have been trying to remove from our game for a number of years. In one case there was no injury and in the other incident the elbowed Player received a concus
NEWARK, N.J. - Niklas Hagman pulled out a move he worked on in practice and gave the Toronto Maple Leafs their first shootout win of the season.
Hagman put a nifty backhand past Martin Brodeur in the fourth round to give the Maple Leafs a 6-5 win over the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night.
Hagman came in very tight on Brodeur, whipping home the deciding goal while showering the goalie with a spray of ice shavings.
"I decided I was going to try something else and I felt pretty confident with it," Hagman
General managers will have one extra day to make NHL trades. The league said yesterday it has pushed the trade deadline back to March 4. A high volume of games forced the switch. There are 12 games on the schedule March 3 and only two March 4. The league and NHL Players' Association agreed on the change.
The Toronto Maple Leafs wil try to get back in the win column tonight when they visit the New Jersey Devils tonight at the Prudential Center.

NEWARK, N.J. - Martin Brodeur watched a pair of Atlantic Division rivals skate off with wins that counted Saturday. He and the New Jersey Devils also won hours later, only that one was just for practice.
Brian Rolston and David Clarkson scored power-play goals in the second period for the Devils, who finished their pre-season schedule with a 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.
